Future Leaders Day

While the Congress Program was packed with sessions, roundtables, workshops, and forums for energy experts, educational opportunities for youth was also built into the Congress’ total experience.

In partnership with Energy4me® and Pioneer Natural Resources, local high schoolers and area colleges and universities complemented classroom curriculum on energy and sustainability with hands-on learning experience at the Congress.

WPC Energy4me Student STEM Day

The WPC Energy4me Student STEM Day welcomed Houston-area high school students to an energy education day that inspired and educated. With hands-on activities, a technology tour, and career presentation, students received hands-on experiences through activities that created connections between the classroom and real-world situations. This style of teaching also nurtures critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are traits that many employers value.

Future Energy Leaders Day

Students from Houston Independent School District (HISD), other local schools, area colleges, and universities attended the WPC Exhibition at the George R. Brown Convention Center and learned about the worldwide energy industry, how they are employing technology and innovation to move toward clean, affordable energy and how they can get involved and excited about a career in this field. Beyond the various exhibits presented by major companies and countries, there was a large space village presented by NASA (with astronauts!), startup companies pitched their ideas and live discussions and presentations – all topped off by “The Purposeful Journey”, an interactive experience that served to educate participants on the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) specific to climate and energy and how we all can do our part to achieve these goals.

Extending this commitment beyond the event and helping create a legacy for the Congress, a total of eleven TV monitors will be donated to BakerRipley for distribution in Houston-area schools.
