Women’s Breakfast


The Women’s Breakfast sponsored by Aramco Americas, was a casual breakfast led by industry veteran and long-time WPC Executive Committee member, Pinar Yilmaz. The breakfast brought women in the energy industry together for networking and an important discussion on the development and advancement of women in leadership roles.

23rd WPC Opening Ceremony & Welcome Reception


The Opening Ceremony & Welcome Reception celebrated a gathering of attendees from around the world with local entertainment from the Houston Musical Theater, TUTS. The Ceremony featured welcoming remarks from WPC President, Tor Fjaeran, and the official ceremonial handoff from the 22nd WPC by the Turkish Deputy Minister to the 23rd WPC U.S. National Committee. The ceremony was followed by a reception with networking, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Welcome to Houston Opening Session


The 23rd World Petroleum Congress Welcome to Houston Opening Session commenced Monday morning, December 6. The Honorable Mayor Sylvester Turner opened the session with remarks, followed by brief programming ahead of the first Plenary session.

WPC Excellence Awards


The WPC Excellence Awards recognized companies, institutions and/or any public or private organizations engaged in the oil and gas industry for promoting or operating with high excellence standards.
Companies submitted projects in two categories — Social Responsibility and Technological Developments, with over 130 nominated projects. The winners were announced during the WPC Excellence Awards Ceremony.

HOUSTON, USA Night


Attendees came ready and rarin’ for HOUSTON, USA NIGHT at The Rustic Downtown. They celebrated the Lone Star State and all it has to offer. There was southern comfort cuisine sourced from ranchers and farmers from ‘round here, libations to sip, and a live band that inspired your boots to scoot! The Rustic gave us the backdrop of the stars, big and bright, just like Texas.

Dewhurst Lecture


2021 Dewhurst Award Recipient, Dr. Daniel Yergin, was recognized for his exceptional contribution to the oil, gas and energy industry with the highest honor of the World Petroleum Council. The award was presented to Dr. Yergin by previous Dewhurst recipient, Rex Tillerson, 69th U.S. Secretary of State and former ExxonMobil Chairman.

Closing Ceremony & Handoff to Calgary


As the 23rd World Petroleum Congress drew to a close, final remarks were given by the 23rd WPC Organizing Committee, reflecting on shared global perspectives and meaningful dialogue that took place during the week, which will be carried forward by the Congress in Calgary 2023.

Technical Tours


The 23rd World Petroleum Congress spotlighted three Houston destinations advancing technology, innovation, and shaping the future of our city and beyond. Tour 1 was at Ion/Greentown Labs, Tour 2 at Deloitte’s Greenhouse and Tour 3 at Accenture’s Innovation Hub.
